The Island

This was our view right outside our house.  It was the port side of the Island, the beach was about a 10 minute walk through town.

We were so grateful for the weather.  It was only in the high 60's, but we were happy because there was no rain! 

We played at the little park for awhile.  It's always fun to see what unique equipment each park has.

They really like each other most days.

Since there are no cars on the island most people get around on bikes.  This is Julia.  She was our hostess for our apartment and she was the only person that spoke English with us.  She was really nice and helpful.  Her father owns a bike rental place so obviously we took our business there.

And then we just rode around the island.

I was very happy that Brian was pulling the trailer with the two kids! 

This is just one of the examples of the cute places you could stay on the island.  Of course it was booked by the time we decided to make arrangements... we really need to be better planners!

The island is on the far left or in the box on the top right.  It is on the far north east corner of Germany.

We headed to the lighthouse which we didn't realize was a gradual uphill route for 2 MILES!  I made Brian stop and rest and I wasn't even pulling the kids!

But we eventually made it... even all the way to the top!  Brian and Ellie stayed on the ground.

My buddy... who was "6" right then.  He had to be six to climb to the top and he really wanted to climb up all the steps and since he's quite tall for his age I might have suggested that he was already 6.  Well and there was a language barrier.

The downhill ride was so much better!!!  And the kids were making the "ahhahahaaahhhaha" sound while going over all of the bumps.  

Then we headed back to the beach!

And after we came home and showered off, we had dinner at our house and headed out to find ice cream.  Yum.

There are these berries on the island that they make into jams, juices, and liquors.  We decided to try the Sanddorn Berry Juice.  It was good, so then we bought some jam to bring home with us.  But we opted not to try the liquor :)
