"Where's my bike?"

We had what we called "horse cereal" every morning for breakfast.  It was some sort of heavy duty oatmeal/granola.  It was good days 1-3 but by the end we were all ready for something different.
It was a beautiful day.  The first day we were there and we went to rent our bikes, Owen wanted to try riding a bike.  They didn't have any with training wheels and after getting on it for about 1 minute he decided he would rather ride in the trailer.  A couple days later he looked at us and said, "Where's my bike?"
So I put him in long pants because I anticipated many falls and we headed off to rent him a bike and spend the day teaching him how to ride.
But, before we got to the bike store, we stopped off at the grocery store bakery and found some delicious pastries!  Yummo!  Way better than the "horse cereal".
He was so excited to get started.
Brian started with him and about 3 minutes into it, he said he was done.  Ummm, no.  We had the bike all day, there was no way we were letting him quit.  So I took over and I have to say... he did awesome!  We went up and down the street and he was doing it all on his own in no time.  He needed help starting but had no problems with the brakes.
We made a deal that if he went three more times than he could ride to the park.  This seemed to motivate him!  We stopped off at the park for a bit and let the kids play.
Then he was back on and he seriously did great.  He still needed help getting started but then he could ride pretty far before he put on the brakes.  I was running beside him... it was a good workout!
Then he got another break and we hit the beach.

 Warming up in the sun.

We cleaned up from the beach and had another hour before we had to return his bike.  The roads there were so perfect for him to learn on.  They were wide with no cars.
Ellie did feel a little left out so they took turns riding.

And he got it!!!  He even learned to start all on his own.  And most shocking of all.... no crashes!!!  I was seriously amazed with how quickly he learned.
Our last day was another nice, relaxing day.  Started with a bike ride to some of our favorite spots.
We decided to have lunch at one of the restaurants right on the harbor.... big mistake, big, huge!!
Our food was terrible, unless you like raw fish, which we don't, and Ellika dropped a glass on the floor and it shattered.  Not our best meal.
Then we hit the beach one more time.  It was a little cold, but it was our last day.
One of the things that made me laugh at the beach was that you seriously saw all types of wardrobes there.  All the way from winter gear, like this little boy, to nothing at all.  We safely chose somewhere in the middle!
We didn't really want to leave the beach.
Brian took some convincing but he decided  this was his last chance to get all the way in the water.  He said it wasn't actually that cold once he got in.  I wasn't quite as brave.

And we spent our last night there at a fantastic restaurant.  The food was great, the atmosphere was great, and my kids behavior was... nearly great.  No, they were actually pretty good.
We had such a great time in Hiddnesee and we were ready, but sad to leave such a relaxing place.
